Course Content

The foundation year is designed to support students who may not hold the standard qualifications or background to enter this field. This helps students develop their academic skills and understanding. In addition to these, you are also introduced to key concepts, skills and techniques which are required to develop your chosen pathway and course further once you have completed your foundation year. This helps set you up to complete your undergraduate with the level of knowledge you will require to develop your basic understanding further.

This course is designed to develop your technical skills within the computing field with a focus on your programming skills. This helps create opportunities for you within the IT career pathways as well as providing you with key employability skills which are transferable into other job roles. As you progress through the course, you will develop your programming skills such as Jave/Python coding aswell as exploring your web developmental skills such as APIs, HTML5, JSON and data analytics. In addition to these, you will have a focus on developing a range of IT skills such as databases, networking, programming, usability and technologies used on the web. These also link in with building your key skills such as communication, project management, teamwork, presentation and build your knowledge of computer programming.

Whilst undertaking this course, you will be studying through a mixture of different teaching strategies such as lectures, seminars, tutorials and online sessions. This will vary depending on your chosen course and university.

The course format is face to face and you will have a range of coursework activities such as essays, reports, presentations, simulations and projects.

​

The course is a 4 year course and has the following timetable options:

Manchester:

2 Days per week. (1 on site and 1 online)

2 Evenings and 1 weekend day (Evenings online and weekend on site)

The course fees are £9,250 per year which is financed by Student Finance.
